JUSTICE SERVED

May 9 Rioters Get What They Deserved: A Bold Step Toward Law and Order

Today marks a historic moment of accountability in Pakistan’s democratic evolution. The Anti-Terrorism Court in Faisalabad, under the courageous leadership of Judge Naeem Sheikh, has handed down 10-year prison sentences and disqualification from public office to 108 individuals including several prominent PTI leaders for their roles in the May 9, 2023 violence.

This isn't about politics.
This is about discipline, accountability, and the sanctity of the state.

The Convicted Include:

Omar Ayub: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly

Shibli Faraz: Opposition Leader in the Senate

Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Kanwal Shauzab, and more.

These were not peaceful protestors. They were inciters and enablers of violent mobs, who attacked military installations, torched public buildings, and tried to shake the very foundations of our national unity. May 9 was not a protest; it was an orchestrated assault on Pakistan’s institutions.

No one is above the law even not ministers, not MNAs, not senators.

Political leadership must be held to higher standards not lower ones.

Justice has prevailed after months of thorough investigation, testimonies, and due process.

Let this be a lesson to those who think they can play politics with national security: Accountability has arrived.

All Pakistanis should stand firmly with this verdict and support the judiciary in taking bold, necessary steps to restore order, peace, and dignity to our republic.

This decision is not about party lines; it's about setting a precedent that betrayal, violence, and lawlessness will never again be tolerated under the guise of political opposition.

Those who encouraged the mobs on May 9 should reflect on the consequences of their actions. Pakistan needs reformers, not rioters.
